Hello, friends—
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been busy prepping and moving into a new workspace—the first I’ve had since early 2021 when I left my previous one and moved abroad. From then on, I mostly worked from home, but increasingly, I’ve felt the pull to commute.
Rereading that last sentence, it sounds a little sad, actually—lol—but I’ve really missed the ability to separate home from work. Gradually getting used to a new space and figuring out the best ways to utilize it has already been so refreshing.
One thing I’ve missed so much since beginning to work from home is the opportunity to chit-chat and brainstorm with others in the same place. Where my office is, people come and go throughout the day in a calm stream, and there develop these wonderful little social pockets depending on who’s where, who knows who, and how they move around the building.
Those spontaneous conversations—and often, pleasant distractions—are so invigorating when so much of my time is spent on my own, just working. People see what you’re doing and offer not only valuable feedback, but share what they’re doing, too. Those organic introductions or catch-ups every once in a while make me feel less like I’m working in a silo and more like I’m a part of a local creative ecosystem in a meaningful way. It’s not always easy to see how important that is until you wonder where it’s gone!
See you next week.

P.S. I’ve also added a bunch more opportunities to yngspc.com/opportunities!

Five exhibitions on view this week in Bratislava, London, Los Angeles, Paris, and Zürich
Twelve opportunities for artists with deadlines coming up soon
Featured Artist: Suyi Xu
Transforming Renaissance motifs and classical interior architecture into ethereal tableaus, Suyi Xu creates paintings that invite a sense of wonder while at the same time examining our perception of space and the present. She often frames glowing doorways or paintings within paintings at the end of arcades, long hallways, or luminescent Gothic naves.
The artist’s current solo exhibition Free Form continues through April 7 at Europa in New York City. Find more on the artist’s website.
